Arjun Balar, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine, New York, NY, USA, and Director of the Genitourinary Medical Oncology Program at the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Health in New York. Dr Balar completed his internal medicine residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center and undertook a fellowship in medical oncology and haematology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York during which he received many honours and awards, including the 2012 (CCF)/ASCO Young Investigator Award and ASCO Merit Awards in 2011 and 2012.; he is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine.
Dr Balar’s research focuses on novel therapies and combinations for advanced and high-risk localized urothelial bladder cancer. He was lead investigator for three multinational clinical trials leading to the very first approval of novel immunotherapies for first-line advanced and high-risk localized bladder cancer. He continues to be a leading investigator of novel immunotherapies and combinations in invasive and advanced bladder cancer.
Dr Balar has authored or co-authored several peer-reviewed manuscripts in journals including Journal of Clinical Oncology, Lancet, and Lancet Oncology, along with a number of book chapters. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC).
