Expert bio

James Catto is Professor of Urological Surgery at The University of Sheffield and an Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He also holds the posts of Honorary Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Oxford and Honorary Clinical Professor at the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science of University College London; he previously served as an exchange fellow for the European Association of Urology and American Urological Association. Prof. Catto’s research interests focus on the biology and management of urological cancers. In his role as research-team leader he has raised more than £18 million in peer-reviewed funding in the form of awards and grants from leading foundations and charities including The Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK, The Royal College of Surgeons of England, The Urological Foundation, and Yorkshire Cancer Research.

To date, Prof. Catto has been the recipient of a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Professorship, the “Best Thesis Prize” and the “Crystal Matula Award” of the European Association of Urology, the “Bard Medal” and the “Golden Telescope” of The British Association of Urological Surgeons, and an Astellas Education Foundation Award. He has published more than 200 primary research manuscripts, and currently has more than 16,000 citations on Google and an h-index of 67 on Scopus.
