Expert bio

Heather Payne is a Consultant in clinical oncology at University College Hospital, London, UK, and Professor of Prostate Oncology at University College London, London. After training at St Mary’s Hospital, London, she spent time working in general medicine both in London and in Haiti, before specializing in clinical oncology with a special interest in urological oncology.

Actively involved in urological oncology clinical research, Prof. Payne pioneered a programme of high-dose rate brachytherapy for prostate cancer. Her current research interests include hormone therapy, sensitisation of hormones and radiotherapy, predictive indices for bowel toxicity with radiotherapy, proton beam therapy for prostate cancer, chemotherapy, quality of life, and decision-making for men with prostate cancer.

Prof. Payne is Principal Investigator in a number of international, multicentre, and local studies. She is a Trustee of the Prostate Cancer Research Centre, Chair of the British Uro-oncology Group, and Clinical Lead for the National Prostate Cancer Audit. Prof. Payne also serves on the Prostate Cancer Charter for Action and the Prostate Cancer Advisory Group in the UK.
