Sabine Merkelbach-Bruse, PhD, is molecular biologist at the University Hospital Cologne, Germany. She received her PhD in 1994 from the RWTH Aachen in Molecular Plant Biology. After positions held in the University Hospitals in Aachen and Bonn, she moved to Cologne in 2011 where she is currently Head of Molecular Pathology Diagnostics at the University Hospital Cologne, Institute of Pathology. In 2004, she obtained the qualification as lecturer of Molecular and Experimental Pathology. Prof. Merkelbach-Bruse acts as coordinator of several quality assessment schemes in the field of molecular pathology and is responsible for the scientific management of training and education for molecular pathologists within the European Society of Pathology and the International Academy of Pathology. Since 2018, she is chair of the Task Force Molecular Diagnostics in the national Network Genomic Medicine.

Professor Merkelbach-Bruse’s research interests focus on molecular pathology and research for new biomarkers and development of new diagnostic tools.
