María José Juan Fita has been an Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University in Valencia, Spain, for four years, and is a medical oncologist in the Genitourinary Uro-oncology Unit of the Medical Oncology Department at the Hospital Instituto Valenciano de Oncologia in Valencia. Dr Juan Fita earned her medical degree at the Universidad de Valencia, in Valencia, in 2005, where she also completed her PhD, in 2015, receiving the highest commendation. In 2009, she completed a 3-month fellowship in genitourinary tumours at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, in New York, NY, USA.

Dr Juan Fita’s research interests include clinical and translational research and medical education in the fields of urothelial, renal, and prostate cancers, with a key focus on genitourinary tumours and the clinical development of anticancer drugs. She has extensive experience in clinical trials, having acted as Principal Investigator or sub-investigator of more than 30 trials. Dr Juan Fita is a member of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM).

Dr Juan Fita has co-authored several original research articles in peer-reviewed journals including Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, the European Journal of Cancer, Oncotarget, and Clinical and Translational Oncology. Recently, she was a key organiser of a virtual meeting discussing the near future of genitourinary tumours, part of a scientific initiative of the Foundation for Excellence and Quality in Oncology (ECO), and endorsed by the SEOM.
